When Do You Contact the Police Station?

Contact the Police Department When...

  • Need to find the status of a case report.
  • Need to schedule an appointment or speak specifically to a particular officer or detective. If he/she is not in the building, you will be referred to voicemail and receive a return call.
  • Have a question about criminal (not civil) law, city ordinances, and so forth. See the City of Lynnwood web site at www.ci.lynnwood.wa.us and click on the Lynnwood Municipal Code (LMC) link for local laws.
  • Have questions about pet licenses, fingerprinting, or concealed pistol licenses.
  • Need to know if someone is in the Lynnwood Jail, or you want to pay bail/post bonds for an inmate.
  • Need to pick up crime prevention information or discuss a concern with a crime prevention specialist (425 744-6938).
  • Have suspected drug activity to report. The clerks will direct you to our Special Operations Section, the Narcotics Unit, or Crime Prevention to record your information.

It is important to understand that generally officers are "on the road" and NOT available at the Station. If you come to the Police Department to talk to an officer, our front desk will need to call 911 to dispatch an officer to respond to your needs! Dispatchers assign calls to officers on a priority basis, and all responses are documented through a computer aided dispatch system. It is better for you to call 911 and ask for an officer to respond to your location (if you are in the City of Lynnwood).

You may have a Lynnwood mailing address, but live outside the city limits of Lynnwood, in which case the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office responds. It is useful for you to know which law enforcement agency responds to your address if you are requesting information from the police department. The Lynnwood Police Department will be involved in taking a report only if the crime occurred within the city limits of Lynnwood (for example: if you live in Lynnwood and your car was stolen in Seattle, you need to report the crime in Seattle).

Reporting Vehicle Collisions

  • If a Lynnwood police officer takes a report, you should get the case number and forward the information to your insurance company.
  • If you have a minor collision (under $700 damage and no injuries), you must exchange information with the other party at the scene. No police report needs to be filed, but you may wish to inform your insurance company.
  • If damage to your vehicle is more than $700 and/or there are injuries, and the Lynnwood Police Department (LPD) did not take a report, you must fill out a Washington State Patrol Accident Form and send to WSP. These forms are available at the front desk of LPD or at any police department.

Found Property

  • If you find a lost item (for example: wallet, purse, or cell phone), and a contact number is available, feel free to call the individual and return the item.
  • If you would rather turn the item in to police, come to the department and file a found property report. We will either contact the owner, or store the item for a period of time.
