The mission of the Canine Unit is to support the Patrol Division via the application of police service dogs trained in tracking, apprehension, and narcotics detection, in order to enhance officer safety,
capture of suspects, and assist in evidence collection.

Authorized staffing for the Canine Unit increased this year, by the addition of another K-9 team to our staff.
The Canine Unit now has three full-time K-9 teams. Supervision of the Canine Unit is a collateral assignment
of a Bureau of Field Operations supervisor.

With the addition of the third dog the City now has a K-9
Team on-duty seven days a week. The unit’s newest member,
“Vader”, was purchased in September and has already proven
to be an asset to the Department and the community.
Officer Langdon continues to serve as an Assistant K-9
Trainer while pursuing his Master Trainer certification.
Officer Langdon (Buddy), Officer Valentine (Sandor) and
Officer Zatylny (Vader) attended the annual conferences,
seminars and other canine trainings and have achieved their
respective certification and qualification requirements. |
