The mission of the Lynnwood Police Department Planning, Training, and Accreditation Section is to provide quality training on all aspects of police work to departmental members and employees, maintain accurate, up to date computerized training records consistent with accreditation standards, and to track the expenditure of training funds.
Authorized staffing for the Planning, Training and Accreditation Section is one full-time sergeant and one officer.
In two-thousand and seven Snohomish County held
its first regional Basic Law Enforcement Academy
(BLEA) in more than 15 years. The Lynnwood
Police Department played a pivotal role in the
development and running of the academy. The
police department provided a full-time training
sergeant for the six-month academy and countless
other specialized instructors, actors, training
and equipment. Six Lynnwood Police Department
recruits attended and completed the academy.

The Training Section provided 12,794 hours of
training to police department employees in 2007,
a 5%
increase over the previous year. Police
department volunteers received 4,103 hours of
training, which is a
28% decrease from the previous year. Total
department training hours for 2007 was 18,672,
which is
consistent with the previous year.
- Facilitated basic academy training of
eight new police officers and one new
custody officer. This included Training
Sergeant Patrick Fagan serving as the Basic
Law Enforcement Academy’s training sergeant.
- Facilitated field training for three new
police officers and three new custody
officers. These officers have assumed full
time duties as “solo” officers.
- Integrated FATS (Firearm Training
Simulator) training into the annual firearms
training program.
- Reviewed 29 vehicle pursuits and 25 use
of force incidents.
- Conducted on-site legal update training
to 32 Lynnwood police officers and numerous
officers from
areas agencies. The course was instructed by
the Senior Council of the Washington State
Attorney General’s Office.
- Held six pursuit review boards.
- Increased firearms training by a total
of 32% over the past two years.
- Initiated the training process for two
new defensive tactics instructors through
the Washington State Criminal Justice
Training Commission.
- Facilitated active-shooter training for
several police officers via a federally
funded training program.
- Assumed oversight of several equipment
functions of the agency.
- Facilitated Detective Post’s attendance
at Troy University’s Polygraph school in
Atlanta, Georgia where she completed the
training and is now certified as a Polygraph
Examiner.
