| The mission of the Lynnwood Police Department Planning, Training, and Accreditation Section is to provide quality training on all aspects of police work to departmental members and employees, maintain accurate, up to date computerized training records consistent with accreditation standards, and to track the expenditure of training funds.
Authorized staffing for the Planning, Training and Accreditation Section was one full-time sergeant and two
full-time officers.
In two-thousand and seven Snohomish County held
its first regional Basic Law Enforcement Academy
(BLEA) in more than 15 years. The Lynnwood
Police Department played a pivotal role in the
development and running of the academy. The
police department provided a full-time training
sergeant for the six-month academy and countless
other specialized instructors, actors, training
and equipment. Six Lynnwood Police Department
recruits attended and completed the academy.

The Training Section facilitated 11,103 hours of training for police department employees in 2009, on par with
the previous year. Police department volunteers received 5,940 hours of training, which is a 59% increase
from the previous year. Total department training hours for 2009 were 18,923 hours. Major accomplishments
were as follows:
- Facilitated the creation and implementation of an in-house three day police skills refresher course that
provided fifty-six officers with training on a host of topics, to include: legal update, hazardous material
response, interviewing, use of force and vehicle use policy review, property seizures, evidence processing,
emergency vehicle operations, and others.
- Coordinated and implemented a comprehensive review and update of the department policy manual.
- Managed and coordinated the department’s preparation for a comprehensive accreditation process
conducted by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. The Lynnwood Police
Department was found in compliance with all 105 individual standards and was awarded re-accreditation.
- Reviewed 23 vehicle pursuits and 18 use of force
incidents.
- Held seven pursuit review boards.
- Conducted one major incident review board.
- Completed 138 formal training packets.
- Conducted lateral vascular neck restraint refresher
training for 58 officers as part of police skills refresher
training.
- Facilitated a lengthy testing process for the acquisition
and implementation of a new in-car video system
slated for early 2010.
- Coordinated the purchasing and installation of
equipment on eleven replacement police cars.
- As part of police skills refresher, provided 256 hours
of training in emergency vehicle operations.
