Fun Facts

Pool Cover
Mortenson Construction has built a temporary protective structure over the existing lap pool. This temporary trussed cover can support moderate loads and ensure the existing pool is not damaged throughout the construction process.

Dirt RemovedMost of the excavation is completed. About 1,500 cubic yards of dirt were removed from the site of the new north pool.

On the inside of the building, the demolition team has removed nearly 900 cubic yards of debris. All of the demolition debris, including drywall, wood framing and other materials, is taken off site and sorted.

Debris RemovalAt least 75% of the construction waste will be diverted from disposal. The management of the construction waste is one element of the LEED® project checklist.

Meet the Project Team

There are many consultants and team members involved in the Rec Center renovation project. This month, we highlight our GC/CM team.

Randy Erickson and Ralph Brems will lead Mortenson Construction’s general contractor and construction management services on the Rec Center renovation. Supported by Kevin Wall, they will ensure that the project team completes the renovation safely, efficiently and at a high level of quality.

Project Engineer

With 37 years of construction experience, Randy is one of Mortenson’s most experienced and successful superintendents. He has led project teams on some of Mortenson’s most notable and complex projects, including the $132 million Snohomish County Redevelopment Initiative in Everett. Randy has an intense focus on quality, safety, and cleanliness on the jobsite, and his projects often win Mortenson’s quarterly “Cleanest Project” and “Safest Project” awards. In fact, the best time to visit Randy’s jobsite is after receipt of these awards, as he thanks his team members by personally cooking them a barbecue lunch – and his barbecue is second to none! Randy is a strong project leader, and he prides himself on ending each project with positive, lasting relationships.

Over the past 25 years, Ralph’s involvement in the construction industry has included working as a project manager for both general contractors and as an owner representative. With this background, he better understands how to meet the City’s expectations. Ralph also has extensive experience in working specifically with mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, which will be a key area of focus for him on the renovation project. One of Ralph’s notable projects includes the $131 million Tulalip Hotel in Tulalip.

With a degree in construction management from California Polytechnic State University, Kevin brings a fresh perspective to the Rec Center project team! Working in conjunction with Randy and Ralph, Kevin will be responsible for supporting them in all aspects of quality control, construction document interpretation and implementation, project documentation, and general process administration tasks. In addition, he is a LEED Accredited Professional and will work to incorporate sustainable building practices whenever possible. Kevin recently worked in the same role on a complex, $249 million technology and research office building project and on a renovation to the Department of Ecology.
