What does it take to keep your pet happy and healthy? What can you expect as a responsible pet owner? These are just a couple topics covered by Lynnwood Police Animal Control Officers during their Animal Control Education (ACE) courses in Lynnwood schools.

The program, taught to second graders, includes games, activities, a video and a pet adoption assignment with a pretend furry friend that they have to care for over the course of the three week class. The students named their adopted “pets” and were allowed to keep them at the end of the program.

“This teaches them responsibility with pets,” said Lynnwood Police Animal Control Officer, Bernie Federmeyer. He added, “It also shows the kids we aren’t ‘dog catchers’ but animal control officers and we’re here to help them and animals.”

The ACE program will be offered in additional elementary schools in Lynnwood this spring..
