V.I.P.S. - Volunteers in Public Safety

VIPS is a group of dedicated volunteers consisting primarily of senior citizens who provide a host of services to the police department such as filing, mail distribution, home security checks, and other important day-to-day functions.

Activity
Photo: VIPS volunteer helps a Lynnwood resident's pet VIPS conduct the vacation house check service, going out in the Lynnwood Police Department's Crime Prevention cars each morning to check on the homes of Lynnwood residents who are on vacation. They walk around outside of the houses, making sure all is secure. When they find packages left at unoccupied homes, the parcels are brought back to the police department for delivery after the resident has returned. The number of homes checked each day ranges from about 10 to 20. Some houses are checked for months while residents are on extended vacations. Please note that there is no charge for this service.

The VIPS also deliver the inter-city mail and help with other projects as needed. Some of the VIPS process pawn slips and help with clerical filing. Detectives have also asked the VIPS to help them with research on specific cases.
