Lynnwood Library Board

June 10, 2010

Lynnwood Library Meeting Room

 

Present: Marie Warnick, Chair; Susanne Meslans; Mary Ann Abbey, Board Members. Judy Sasges, Sno-Isle Libraries South District Manager; Michael Delury, Lynnwood Managing Librarian

 

Guests: Leslie Moore, Mobile Services Director, Sno-Isle Libraries

 

I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 1:02p.m.

 

II. Minutes: M/S/P to approve the minutes for the May, 13 2010 meeting as written.

 

III. Public Comment: None

 

IV.  Old Business

 

            A. Board Vacancy: The vacancy is still open and another vacancy may be in the offing. The position is being advertised by the city.

 

            B.  City Council Liaison Assignment: Kimberly Cole will be the City Council Liaison, replacing Ted Hikel.

 

            C. Library Board New Member Packet Information: This is still in process.

 

V. New Business

 

Leslie Moore, Mobile Services Director, made a presentation on Sno-Isle’s Mobile Services for patrons who cannot visit branch libraries. Ms. Moore gave an overview of the variety of library services provided and the diverse groups reached, as well as the work behind the scenes at headquarters to make the services as efficient and useful as possible. While board members Warnick and Abbey recalled looking forward to Bookmobile visits with their children sixty years ago, Ms. Moore pointed out that the Bookmobile now provides internet access and is a wifi hot spot, showing how Mobile Services continues to live up to its motto: “We deliver.”

 

VI. Reports

 

            A. Librarian’s Report:  Mr. Delury reported on the moving Memorial Day activities coordinated by the city and the library, and he noted that another exhibit, based on a publication about local World War II veterans, is planned for Veterans Day. Mr. Delury described plans for an active summer.  Various activities and events, focusing on lifelong learning for life skills and hobbies, are planned. Summer reading programs for various age groups are active. On June 18 at 8:00p.m. celebrity librarian Nancy Pearl will make an appearance in the Conference Room.

 

            B. Sno-Isle Libraries: Ms. Sasges wished the Board a good summer and urged the Board to visit Mill Creek library park to see the newly dedicated veterans’ memorial.

 

            C. Lynnwood City Executive Assistant: No report.

 

            D. Lynnwood City Council: No report.

 

            E. Friends of the Lynnwood Library: Mr. Delury reported that the Friends are on their summer break but will continue to administer the successful book sale.
