Traffic Cases
Defendants in traffic infraction cases may either pay a predetermined fine or request a hearing. At the hearing, they can contest their traffic ticket or explain the circumstances surrounding the incident. The judge decides the case based on the preponderance of the evidence. Click here for more information on infractions.
Criminal Misdemeanor Cases
In criminal matters, the City must prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. All defendants have the right to an attorney at all hearings. If the defendant cannot afford to hire an attorney, the City will appoint one to represent him or her (in cases where the offense could result in a jail sentence). Click here for more information on criminal matters.
Domestic Violence
If you are a victim of domestic violence, you may petition the court for an Order for Protection from Domestic Violence. This makes it a criminal offense for the person named in the order to make unwanted contact with you. Contact the Domestic Violence Coordinator for assistance at (425) 670-5621. Court clerks are available to help you with the paperwork. Protective orders other than domestic violence are handled by the Snohomish County District Court - South Division at 20520 68th Ave W, Lynnwood.
Other Services
The Lynnwood Municipal Court also can provide information on alcohol treatment programs, anger management counseling and other social services. For more information call 425-670-5130.
The public is welcome to observe the court in action. Interested groups can arrange tours of the court, which include an explanation of court procedures. |
