Frequently Asked Questions: Getting a Job at the City of Lynnwood
How do I find out about openings?
The City advertises job openings in a variety of sources including the Seattle Times, Employment Paper, Everett Herald, Jobs Available, Hispanic Hotline, Black Careers Now, and AWC Job Net. The City also sends position announcements to other government agencies, community based organizations, Employment Security, and schools and colleges. One of the most successful ways we find candidates is through the internet. We post our jobs on our website or on sites like jobsingovernment.com, awc.org, and govtjobs.com. The City also operates a self-service job kiosk in City Hall.
Can I just send you my resume?
No. The City does not accept unsolicited resumes. Make sure to apply only for advertised openings.
How long does it take to get notified for an interview?
Applicants will generally be notified within two days that we have received their resume. However, it can take several weeks after the posted closing date for the applications to be screened and interview candidates selected. We screen for both minimum and preferred qualifications and we need to document our process thoroughly. Only those candidates selected for an interview will be notified.
What if I don’t get selected?
You may apply for any position open to the public. Make sure to read the minimum qualifications listed on the announcement--we screen based on these. It is a competitive process, so even though a candidate may meet the minimum qualifications, they may not be selected for an interview because there are others more qualified.
